She only wanted a quick dip and ended up with a survival story.
Maxime Rancourt considered herself a good swimmer, but she was no match for the dangerous waves at Kelly’s Cove, an area of Ocean Beach located just below the historic Cliff House, San Francisco.

The place is known to emergency services for the ocean’s extreme currents. Confident in her swimming ability, the woman went into the sea for a cold-water dip. However, within seconds, the force of the ocean dragged her about 15 meters away from shore. Unfortunately, she was not wearing her glasses and her visibility was low, so she desperately swam toward a rocky wall to avoid drowning.

For approximately 30 minutes, Maxime had to climb and move sideways to avoid being hit by the strong surf and swept back into the sea. Because of how sharp the rocks were, she suffered multiple scrapes all over her body while holding on and waiting for help.

It could have been the end for her. She had no way to call for help, but fortunately, someone spotted her in the distance and called 911. The coastal rescue team from the San Francisco Fire Department came to the scene and managed to bring her to safety within minutes. Maxime survived with only superficial injuries and, in a later television interview, was able to contact the firefighters to personally express her deep gratitude for saving her life.
