DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — A woman died in DeKalb County on Monday night following a crash involving a United States Postal Service truck that flipped over.

The crash happened in the 3700 block of Larkspur Terrace in a Decatur neighborhood, police said. The DeKalb Medical Examiner’s Office said the death of 40-year-old Tinisha Cade was reported to its office.

Witnesses saw Cade pinned under the truck, though the medical examiner’s office says the official cause and manner of death are under investigation.

USPS said in a statement it was “deeply saddened by the tragic loss of a postal family member.”

11Alive was on scene Monday night when the truck was lifted back upright. Another vehicle was seen being towed away with damage to it.

A woman at the scene said she heard a loud boom following the crash just after 7 p.m. She said she ran to the window and she saw the mail carrier truck on its side. She saw the driver of the other vehicle standing in the street screaming saying that the woman driving the USPS truck was underneath the truck.

DeKalb County Police described how the crash occurred in a statement:

Around 7:11pm last (4/27) night, DeKalb County Police responded to a reported crash at Larkspur Terrace and Iris Lane. On arrival, officers located a two-vehicle collision between a US postal vehicle and a passenger vehicle. Preliminary investigation suggests the passenger vehicle was making a turn from Iris onto Larkspur when it struck the postal vehicle, causing the postal vehicle to overturn. The driver of the postal vehicle died of their injuries at the scene. The crash remains under investigation.
