A normal drive turned into a life or death moment in less than a minute.

Friends, on February 8, 2026, a Florida mother named Shyeniqua Wilkins was driving through Indiantown in Martin County with her three young children when she suddenly suffered a seizure behind the wheel. The SUV veered off the road and plunged into a nearby canal, flipping into the water. Within seconds the vehicle began to sink.

Another driver named Casey Curtis saw the crash happen in his rear view mirror. Instead of assuming someone else would help, he pulled over immediately and ran toward the canal.

When Curtis reached the vehicle, the situation was already critical. The car had partially submerged, and the children were trapped inside. Curtis jumped into the water and pulled the kids out one by one, getting them safely onto the bank. But their mother was still inside the vehicle, unconscious.

So Curtis went back.

He stayed in the canal, holding Wilkins’ head above the water while waiting for first responders to arrive. At one point he even gave her a rescue breath until she began breathing again.

Wilkins survived and later reunited with Curtis while recovering in the hospital. Looking at the man who pulled her family out of the canal, she told him something simple and direct. She said he may not want to be a hero, but to her he will always be one.

Sometimes survival comes down to a stranger deciding not to drive past.
