SeeIn 2013, Alex Lewis was 34 years old and thought he had a simple flu, but within days, his life took a drastic turn when he developed a severe Group A streptococcal infection that led to sepsis and multiple organ failure. To save his life, doctors had to amputate his legs, one arm, and part of the other, as well as remove sections of his face affected by necrosis. Against all odds, Lewis survived, spent months in a coma, and underwent dozens of reconstructive surgeries before he could walk again with prosthetics and resume his family and work life. His story was captured in the documentary The Extraordinary Case of Alex Lewis. The pub owner says he feels happier than before his illness and is grateful for having learned to cherish every day and every human connection.
