In March 2013, Jeffrey Bush, a 36-year-old man, was sleeping in his bedroom in the early morning hours when the ground suddenly collapsed and dragged him into a huge sinkhole that opened beneath his bed. The desperate screams alerted his family.
His brother, Jeremy Bush, ran to help him and even jumped into the hole in the hope of rescuing him. However, the ground kept collapsing, and emergency crews had to pull him out before he also became trapped.
The crater was more than 15 meters deep, which made any rescue operation extremely dangerous. After several attempts, authorities determined that it was impossible to recover Jeffrey. His remains were never found.
